Life and such.

This winter has been abnormally warm. It's more rain than anything else, and soon spring will arrive. Normally we have at least a few weeks where it's bitter and windy and below freezing, but not this time. I don't particularly mind one way or another, though I do wish there were more occasions to grab a hot chocolate and get comfy. Can't win em all, I guess.

Interesting, winter here has also been very warm. Last year or so, schools were closed, not due to snow, but to cold.

Warm here too! It's probably because a historically strong El Nino occurred last year, which has lead to pretty weird (mostly warm and wet but stable) weather patterns for large portions of the Northern Hemisphere. The Arctic Oscillation index has also been mostly positive, meaning cold weather has been confined to the Arctic region rather than forming large loops southwards.

Yeah, distinct lack of cold enough weather to properly enjoy hot chocolate :(

It's been raining here a lot. I read that this is now Seattle's wettest winter on record.

It has been rather cold for the past few months with little to no snow where I live. But it has been starting to warm up, might even feel a bit like summer tomorrow.

I planted basil seeds I got from Wikipedia.

Eeeh? You can download seeds now?

Yeah sure.
Or maybe I bought these - https://store.wikimedia.org/products/citation-needed-plantable-pencils-3-pack

I'll never tell!

It's raining a lot and I love it.

El Nino is upon us.

I wish it rained more often where I live.

Rain took away the cherry blossom petals. They were beautiful while they stood on the branches of the tree outside my dorm. Every afternoon I saw the sunset behind them and was stopped for a moment before returning to my tasks. Now the tree holds blood red leaves. I wonder how they got that color. I haven't seen a cherry blossom tree with leaves like that before.

I do too. It's only rained here like twice in the last 8 months, recalling from memory.

Are you sure they are cherry trees? Ornamental plum varieties look very similar, but have red leaves. They may produce little fruits.

And come on man, wabi-sabi, impermanence is a form of beauty in the world :)

Weather's been great lately! I've been taking walks and enjoying it. It's a nice way to get away from the stress of normal living.

I met up with a good friend I hadn't seen in a while and had a chance to fly their FPV wing. It reminded of me of one of the chapters of Kotonoba Drive, looking back on the hill from the air and seeing us standing there!

Snowed for the past couple of days here, hard to believe that it is spring.

It just got cold again where I'm at, not cold enough to snow. However it snowed in April last year, only for like a minute.

Kind of wish it would be winter again and we could just skip summer, but I also love the rainy summer days. Kind of conflicted feelings in life now in general.

I went to this island with a friend.
https://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=15/43.6609/-70.1881
I wanted it to be just a beautiful walk around Maine island. It ended up being a lot more than that.
We went for a walk around the island, like most Maine islands is was so beautiful it hurt. As we came around the east side however my friend saw something over the swamp. A massive concrete structure rising out of a hill. It was something I had never even heard of despite living here all my life. Battery Steele!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battery_Steele
It is MASSIVE on the inside. There is art everywhere, and not just the simple scribbles of teenagers, no, there was some really good stuff there. Things that obviously took a lot of skill and time to complete. Some rooms in the bunker were obviously filled with art installations at some point in the past. I even say this painting of a face -

http://www.highstrungloner.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/potd-20110401-074.jpg

Some parts of the bunker were cut off to us are they were filled with Atlantic sea water. We had a musical accompaniment for our exploration too, as some local kids who lived on the island were there for a hard-punk band practice. As my friend and I explored their haunting screams and guitar riffs let us know that we were not alone.

I plan to go back there some day with a bike, water, lots of lights, a proper camera, a tripod if I can get my hands on one. That was all we really had on us were our clothes and our phones.

Spring weather has finally arrived! Now the sun can properly heat the ground, gigantic towering clouds are forming, drifting across the landscape; they're adding a lovely sense of dynamism to the scene out the window.

Sounds like a fun trip out! Coastal batteries are such a weird little aberration of history, seemingly built by all the world powers for some sort of steampunk-ish all-out war with heavy artillery but no airborne explosvies that never came. And yeah, they never seem to exist until you're right on top of them...

I've only ever visited one over here, Cliffe Fort. When it's flooded, it feels like you're standing on the edge of a level in a platforming game!

I still plan to hire a boat with a friend or two and head out to see one of the Maunsell/Shivering Sands towers one day too (the things that Sealand was built on, there were a whole series of them built throughout estuary). Visiting one of the German flak towers is on the same list!

It's nice that Steele is preserved as a public space though; I think any society needs these big structures to go and mess around in, and it seems giving access to it has certainly been a success.

Freestanding, for my clothing, not done yet.

It's been constantly raining for very brief periods of time.
Roughly half an hour of sun followed by 10-15 minutes of rain, going on like that all day.
It's quite bothersome, can't really do any work in the yard like this but at the same time it's comfortable inside so I don't really mind.

I got a real bad RSI in my right arm, but I feel it's getting better. The weather has been nice recently and I really want to ride my bike and take photos and enjoy spring.

I was very sunny as I worked on cleaning out 40 years of crap from my friends dads barn. For a very sick man, I'm surprised I was able to get it all done in one day, as I did.

Raining here. I wish it snowed, but we can't get everything we ask for.

Find anything interesting? I'm convinced that barns have some sort of reality-distorting field that just materialises odd objects.

They put a small wind turbine up a couple of weeks ago on a tower building I can see from my room. The breeze never seems to stop up there; it seems so industrious, working all the time. Keep it up, wind turbine!

Another semester done. Only 3 to go. Does anyone ever get or has gotten that tingly feeling when the semester is over or about to be?

Like a melancholic/anxious one.
