Video Games

Why are retro video game prices so inflated? I want to buy them, but extremely common games seem to go for 30 dollars. I hope prices go down soon.
2 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-04 14:59
I would recommend checking your local classifieds for better deals. Thrift stores and garage sales are also great for that.
3 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-04 16:55
Now's still a good time to buy consoles that aren't by the Nintendo, but I can see them rising in prices also. I'm thinking about just buying flashcarts for my old consoles.

Starbound looks fun

I keep hearing about Starbound, but what is the appeal? The site doesn't really explain the hype; is it terraria done right?
6 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-04 19:43

It basically does look like Terraria/Minecraft but more fleshed out with way more content. You can actually use furniture like chairs, farming system along with a cooking system (with specific categories like drink, snack, main course, etc), different races, lore with books and stuff like in the elder scrolls games, vehicles, etc.

There's also an infinite number of randomly generated planets to fly to with tons of variables like terrain, biomes, gravity, fauna, creatures (which are randomly generated themselves), towns and dungeons (again randomly generated and vary in style depending on what race they belong to, like the bird people an Aztec style and robots have medieval castles). All kinds of things that will hopefully make exploring fun for a good while.

Unfortunately it's a game I'm hyped for which means it will probably turn out to be bad ( ´_ゝ`)

That sounds really interesting, I'll keep an eye on it.

(´・ω・`) I watched a video of it. Looks neat but just as you said, I think it's going to be not so good. Isn't it just basically Terraria with some extra stuff?
9 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-05 15:38
With the Sims 4 announced, I thought I'd give the Sims 3 a real try. It took the entire morning to install all the expansion packs, but now I'm finally two hours into the game. The open world is very fun and you can really do a lot. Building homes can be as extensive as you like it and the customization is endless and easy. I still have to get used to the doll-like faces, though.

Isn't it just basically Terraria with some extra stuff?

I dunno, it kinda looks that way. But a terraria with enough extra things that make it so it doesn't get boring after 5 hours would be great, and hopefully that's what starbound is

Does your area have a private game shop? As in not Gamestop/EBgames? I've always found prices to be lower at my local privately owned small game shop than at Gamestop. The people are nicer too.

15 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-08 11:16
Are there any arcades in your area? I really wish we had some here in Germany.

>>12
I guess I won't be able to play it on my DS Lite
>>11
I can confirm this. Gamestop is really utter shit in terms of costumer service and price compared to the local corner shops. >>1-san, you should also check out flea markets in your area.
>>14
I bought FF12 last year. Needless to say I am dissapointed. Those Offline MMOs don't fit me.
16 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-08 13:57
Flea markets are great, but you have to get up really early if you want to find anything good. Usually it takes up an entire day and it's a gamble.

It's not out where I live, but I heard some cities got them early? I don't know, but for me it's only a few more days.

If it's one thing I've learned at E3 so far, it's that game developers really love shoehorning in tablet/smartphone gimmicks

How many of you fine folk are enjoying the new Animal Crossing? I'm only a day in because of Amazon botching my shipping, but I'm so happy with it so far.

I'm going to wait until there's an AC announced for the WiiU and buy one of those. If the last 2 AC games are any indication the console version is going to be an upgraded port of the handheld version, and I don't really like playing games on handhelds anyway

I visited someone's town in New Leaf and it made me feel bad about my own town and house
33 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-23 17:49
>>32
There's no reason to feel bad; the game is just barely out. You'll have enough time to put together your cute town.
34 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-25 05:28
>>32
Yea, I'm way behind compared to all my friends in terms of making my town neat and pretty. I'm putting as much time into it, but I'm focusing on creating cross pollinations before I actually landscape with my flowers, and on saving my bells up in my account to get all the rewards for that instead of buying public works projects. Still makes me feel a bit bad that i'm not yet living in a perfect town.
35 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-26 11:20
I just got the very last cage in Rayman 2 and I'm now just 1 lum away from 100% completion. This feels very satisfying because I didn't use any guides. The last lum is hidden somewhere in the first level so this is the perfect ending to a long journey.
36 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-26 16:17
>>35
I now have 999/999 lums and 80/80 cages. Yet my progress is still 99.9%! I remember that the final boss ate one of the lums during a cutscene, lowering the number of collectibles from 1000 to 999; maybe I have to defeat him once more.
37 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-26 18:52
>>36

Oh god, I remember this. This was one of the best games ever! I lost my disc though... It was also damaged, not allowing me to pass after defeating the robot army in the mid game or something... I thought about getting it again
38 Name: Anonymous : 2013-06-26 19:01
>>36
I had to swallow my pride a bit and look up the location of the last lum when defeating the final boss did nothing. It was hidden in the graveyard level, presumably because the lum died when it was eaten.

You really had to know where to find the room it was hidden in, though. Because the path to it wasn't visible from places you could normally stand.

I had to fly around a shadowy corner and there I was greeted by a staircase spiraling down. Reaching the bottom, I stood eye to eye with a gigantic glowing skull across a lake of acid. Space pirates jumped out of each eye hole and started shooting at me. After defeating the two, a keg floated to the surface of the acid and I could advance. Another pair of pirates sprung up and, in turn, another keg appeared after their death.

I had now reached the last keg and three little spiders came crawling out of the skull. They didn't seem to attack me and I quickly dealt with them. I could now see a single lum floating in the left eye-socket. There was a spiders-web spanning the width of the room at the foot of the skull. I jumped onto it and gently floated into the left eye-socket. I captured the lum and was celebrated with a big 'YAHOOO' that popped up on the screen. There was a sharp decline after the skull and I dropped to the black.

I was then dropped somewhere in the level and everything was business as usual. I started with a lum count of 50/50 and this was still the case. I was worried there might be another challenge for the 100% completion I was pining for. Thankfully after finishing the level the save screen put me at ease. After my initals it said '100%'. Victory at last.

I somehow felt like writing this down. Thanks for reading.

What games are you looking forward to for the rest of the year, Post Officers? For me it's

-The Space Station 13 remake. SS13 has always been hit or miss with me, but I've been playing it for over 7 years and the thought of playing it on an engine that doesn't suck makes me giddy

-GTA5. It will likely be the last console game I ever play (at least for a good while), and I'm paranoid my 360 will die before I can finish it as a final twist of the knife. I'll probably end up getting the PC version too if/when that comes out, assuming I've upgraded by then and they don't drop the ball with the port.

-Starbound. Already mentioned in the thread. I hope it's fun

-Project Zomboid. I'm not as into zombies as some people are, but an open-ended ultimately hopeless survival game with permadeath sounds fun.

Osamu Sato, the guy who made LSD and its sequel Eastern Mind also made Chu-Ten (the kanji translates to something like 'middle heaven'). Only 100 or so copies were ever made and nobody was able to find and rip a copy until now. The soundtrack has been readily available, though.

Chu-Ten is kind of s sequel to Eastern Mind and doesn't have that much bearings with LSD at all except its trippiness.

It's a great RPG, one of my favorites. You should play Earthbound first though. The story isn't very related but there are a lot of references to it in Mother 3.

I really prefer Earthbound, because it has amazing personality and I thought the themes were actually more bold and went deeper than in Mother 3. I highly recommend both, but only Earthbound is a masterpiece.

My Animal Crossing town is never gonna be as cool as the official Nintendo one. I should just die!
67 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-08 21:34
>>65
Eh, Mother 2 is bolder, but most of the time it feels like a shock and awe sort of boldness. 3 has a better narrative/gameplay on the whole, a grasp on subtleties of both. It's inches closer to perfection, and while Mother 2 certainly made me feel things at times, Mother 3 is the only game that's ever made me feel emotions as complex and involved as it did.

Everyone should play both for sure, though. Itoi is a wonderful creative mind whose work I hope to see more of in the future.

I really hope he returns to gaming once more. I'm sad he expressed disinterest in making Mother 4, but his objections were also very reasonable. A new IP would also be great.

If any of you are interested in Mega Man, a fangame called Mega Man Unlimited was recently released and has been praised by a lot of people. It's really hard, and I think some of the levels are a bit cheap or too demanding, but I'm enjoying it. So far I've beaten two bosses.

What is, in your opinion the most easily playable Metroid game available for the Wii/Gamecube?
By this I mean easy controls.
78 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-06 01:39
>>76
I haven't played it, but I was around when a friend of mine finished it and he seemed pretty disappointed in the final boss fight and the story's conclusion. I'd probably still go ahead and finish it just because you're already so far into it.

>>77
The Metroid Prime games are really great but the controls might take some getting used to. You may want to start with Super Metroid because it's in 2D and would be easier to control. I think you can download it on the Wii.

Eeeh, I asked because I want to introduce my sister to the Metroid games, but if the controls are hard and she can't just dive into it she won't bother. She has depression. And no internet, so she can't download anything. I just want to be able to go to my local used game shop and pick up whatever GC/Wii Metroid has the most easy controls.

I've read it more comfortable to hold than a 3DSxl and a little but more comfortable than a 3DS. The reason they said *because* it's flat. The weight balances itself out and you don't have to use any energy to prop it up.
