Favorite things thread!

1 Name: The taste of summer. : 2013-07-18 00:03
In this thread, we ask the next poster what their favorite *kind* of something is!
For example: Hey >>1, what's your favorite kind of flower?
My answer: It's sunflowers!
I'll start. Yo, >>2! What's your favorite outdoors place to have a snack?
2 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-18 00:25
>>1
When I was still in school I liked taking lunch at an outdoor theatre surrounded on three sides by the fine arts building. It was a stepped concrete slab deal, bit like the classical ones, but the steps were elongated in a distinctly unclassical way. It was always shady there and you could hear people but they seemed just out of reach.
I should explore the places I live and work now more to find other such spaces.
Hello, >>3. What's your favorite feeling?
3 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-18 02:28
What a cool thread!

>>2
I love the feeling I get when I'm nearing my destination after a long drive. Especially if I'm making the trip to see friends or family. Even though my car's AC doesn't work and I'm usually uncomfortably hot and sweaty by the end of the drive, knowing that I'll soon be among the people I love fills me with peace and I just can't get angry at anything.
For >>4: What's your favorite memory?
4 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-20 01:13
Jeeze >>3, what a hell of a question.
Hmmmmmm.....My guess is that it's probably the time I first decided I trusted and loved my ex enough to want to make love to her.
It was my birthday. Winter. A dark snowy night of video games and and hot coco. We laid in my bed talking. Kissing. Cuddling. And then so much more than that for the entire night. It's a great memory.

Hey >>5, what is your favorite physical inanimate object to touch? A silk pillow maybe?
5 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-20 03:52
>>4
Probably some kind of blanket, something soft and enveloping. It's a different kind of comfort from something that's just soft, like the silk pillow you mentioned, very warm and satisfying instead of just being pleasant to touch.

So, >>6, what's been your favorite year of your life so far, and why?
6 Name: The taste of summer. : 2013-07-29 21:13
Well >>5-san, to tell you the truth, it would be last year. 2012. In 2011 I started to work myself to be better than myself, better than I used to be. In 2012 I really came into my own. I started college and started working out and eating better. Teaching myself new things on my own. Now in 2013 I'm still working on myself. 2011 was a bumpy and rough start. But 2012 I grew myself by leaps and bounds.

>>7-san, what is your favorite creature from a JRPG?
7 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-30 01:07

Well, I think that'd be a slime. I remember comming back to the first city on Lv. 50 or something and the amount of damage that I've dealt was unbelievable. They are also very cute!

Yo, >>8-san, what's your favourite kind of instant noodles?
8 Name: Anonymous : 2013-07-31 22:01
It is, Organic KOYO Udon, >>7-san.

>>9-san, what is your favorite kind of insect? Mine is Dragonfly's.
9 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-02 23:02

Leaf cutter ants! They're so cool with their giant fungus farms and caste system, I think they're fascinating.

Hey >>10-san, what's your favorite music album?
10 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-03 23:26
>>9
Townes Van Zandt or Good

>>11
How do you like your fries?
11 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-04 03:43
>>10
When I'm just getting fries I like to drown them in vinegar and then add salt and pepper. However, when circumstances permit I like to buy a chocolate milkshake to dip my fries in. Not the healthiest option but very satisfying!

>>12
What is your favourite variety of tea/coffee?
12 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-04 21:19
What a great question to ask me, >>11-san! I personally love peach flavored tea, and Lichee Black tea. I don't like coffee much. But I do love me some creamy iced mocha.

Good day to you >>13-san. What is your favorite kind of Pokemon?
13 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-05 02:42
>>12
If you mean type, probably grass or steel, probably as part of some subconscious reverence to my favorite gym leader and master respectively. As for individuals, I honestly wouldn't know what to say. I haven't actually played Pokemon past the third gen, although I enjoyed those first three a good deal.

>>14, what's your favorite hour of the day?
14 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-13 07:52
>>13
I'd have to say 10pm is my favorite hour. Every night at/around 10pm I go into a night time mode by turning on my desk lamp and enjoying a nice cup of tea (in the winter I drink hot cocoa instead). It calms me down quite a bit and I enjoy the lighting much better because it's more focused to where I'm sitting in my room. 10pm marks the time I start winding down for the night and end my day, so I'll just browse the internet, play some games, or watch anime until I'm tired enough to go to bed.

Hey >>15-san, what is your favorite kind of weapon (guns, swords, lightsabers, etc), and why?
15 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-13 17:07
>>14

Artillery because it's intimidating and it has great, uh, impact? I'm not great at explaining why I like things.

>>16
What is your favourite genre of music?
16 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-18 04:01

Yeesh. That's a tough one. I love all different kinds of rock. But I really love low key post-rock.

>>17
What is your favorite kind of plant that is not a flower? Mine is pumpkins.
17 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-18 09:13
>>16
Vines, creeping plants, anything you'd see going up old brick. Just looks wonderful.

To >>18: What's your favorite kind of setting for a story, in any sort of media?
18 Name: Anonymous : 2013-08-20 16:36
Well >>18-san, probably a peaceful after-the-end-of-the-world thing. Not something with the entire worlds life destroyed, but more like a clean slate for humanity type of deal. Think Sora No Woto, or YKK. Haha, what a predictable answer for a Post Office user.

>>19-san, what is your favorite word that does not translate into English? Or just does not have an equal English translation.
19 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-03 07:58
>>18
my favourite non-English word is "komorebi". It's Japanese and it describes "sunlight that filters though the leaves of trees".

>>20
How do you like your eggs? Sunny side up, scrambled, or some other way?
20 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-03 14:07
>>19
I really like scrambled and no other way ever. Also with an assload of salt.

>>21-san, what is your most favorite song in the world? You only get to pick one.
21 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-04 00:23
>>20
Tsubasa o Kudasai. It makes me feel sad and warm and there are so many wonderful renditions of it.

>>22-san, what's your favorite time of day?
22 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-04 22:43
>>21
Probably from 12am-2am. It's always so quiet and dark and I really like that.

>>23-san, what's your favourite kind of cake?
23 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-05 01:08
>>22
I think it must be a chocolate mousse cake with a sort of wafer stuff on the base, it was wonderful!
>>24-san Whats your favorite holiday?
24 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-07 13:26
>>23
Halloween. I have so many fond memories: the leaves changing; a slight chill in the air. I usually spend the day with friends if I can and stay up late watching horror movies or reading scary stories.

>>25-san, what is your favorite book?
25 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-07 23:52
>>24
Probably House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. It's such a great book, though pretty long.

>>26-san, what was your favorite movie as a kid?
26 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-08 15:04
>>25

I fucking loved Independence Day. It's bad. But I loved it.

>>27-san, what is your favorite type of cloud?
27 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-08 22:24
>>26 I really like the big, fluffy ones. The ones that look like mountains, floating in the sky.

>>28 what's your favourite kind of tree?
28 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-09 13:07
>>27
Really old and big trees, that kids climb on. They may even nail boards to the tree to sit on or grab unto, but the tree doesn't care because his branches are so thick.
When I was young, me and my friends had a tree like that in our neighbourhood and we would climb it and play there every day.

>>29-san, what was your favourite vacation?
29 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-11 22:10
>>28
probably my family's trip to Disney World every two years. I've been going since I was one, and I love it more every time we go.

>>30-san, what's your favourite way to listen to music? (like MP3, vinyl, ect)
30 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-12 15:17
>>29
I like digital formats for their fidelity and convenience. FLAC is preferable but my tiny hard drive limits me to MP3 (mostly at v0 with certain albums at 320).

>>31
What's your favourite movie genre?
31 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-13 21:55

32 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-14 19:37

I don't exactly have a favourite season - they are all great! If I had to chose, it would probably be late Spring/early Summer. It's warm enough to spend the day outside in light clothing, yet not terribly hot.

>>33-san, what kinds of computers do you own and how are you using them? Like, do you use a Notebook rather than a Desktop-PC? Are you a Smartphone-person?
33 Name: Anonymous : 2013-11-15 01:49
>>32
I have a laptop, but it's more of a desktop; it's wired to my tv, and I have a wireless keyboard/mouse. I have two smartphones, but because I only need one phone, I made the other one my general use android. I use them all!

So, >>34-san, what's your favorite kind of bread and why?
34 Name: Anonymous : 2015-05-12 05:28
>>33
That would be carrot bread. My mom used to make it for special occasions and it just tastes nice.

>>35-san, hey, >>35-san! What is your favorite activity in summer?
35 Name: Anonymous : 2019-03-03 13:21
>>34
The beach by far! Going to the beach is relaxing, energizing, inspiring and so many other things!
That softly strong smell, it is nostalgic even at the first time. That myriad of sounds all flowing right into our ears. The sand, don't forget about the sand! Soft, crunchy and comfortable. And then there is the sea, the often-ally we visit but cannot settle with, that loves us but lives her in own freedom.

Hi >>36-san, what is your favorite juice?
36 Name: Anonymous : 2019-05-09 04:58

Banana Juice, although I don't drink it often since it's expensive here and I cant drink much if it before feeling sick but I love the taste, especially mixed with cherry juice.

Never seen one in person, but it's got to be Kino's Colt Woodsman Match Target. Don't know what it is, but the gun is really alluring.

Hello friend >>41, what is your favorite discontinued food?
41 Name: Paperplane : 2019-05-12 07:25
>>40
It's kinda niche but in a local grocery chain they used to sell vanilla (and chocolate) pudding in small plastic cups but they made it all fluffy by adding whipped cream to it. Ususally you find pudding with a layer of whipped cream on top but this brand mixed it into the pudding which gave it a really enjoyable texture and taste compared to the more liduiqd/gooey regular pudding.
I loved to eat those as a kid after lunch/dinner. But now looking for them I can't find them anymore and I think they discontinued it.

french, no doubt. i think it's the consonants - they all kind of blend together to make this mish-mash of lovely-sounding words, even if the words themselves aren't too lovely. all in all a very good language, a solid 9/10

46 Name: Anonymous : 2019-05-19 08:45

The small town where my grandmother lived.

Though I wouldn't live out my days there. It is not the place of my youth anymore and there are too many other amazing places in this world where I would want to be instead.

So I got good grades with persnal gain but without perceived effort.

LSD: Dream Emulator. I'm not a big vidya guy, but I've always thought that video games have a lot of potential to be used as art, but almost never use it for that purpose. My significant other got me big a book that has most of Lovecraft's stories in it. It was compiled by a scholar who also wrote lots of annotations into the texts which give lots of background info about Names, language, Lovecraft himself etc. Sometimes with pictures of Lovecraft's hand written letters/notes and photographs of actual places mentioned or alluded to in the stories. On top of that, this huge tome has a really nice design which makes it look like some old warlock's spellbook or so.
The best thing is, she gifted me it without any special reason, just because she knows I would like it.

>>85 What's your favorite insect?

I would have to say among insects, I most prefer the dragonfly. Not only do they prey on mosquitoes, but they are also a good indictator that the ecology of the surrounding environment is low in toxins, because their nymphs need very clean water. Moreover, they have that lovely sheen to their carapace

>>86
What's your favorite childhood memory?
86 Name: Paperplane : 2019-06-11 14:45
>>85
Exellent choice of insect. Just yesterday read about them and didn't know that they are predators that also hunt mosquitoes.

My favourite childhood memory is probably one of several of me and my best friend playing pretend during elementary school times. At first we didn't like each other but during a field trip we walked next to each other by accident and after talking noticed that we have more in common than expected and thus a great friendship unfolded.
We met always daily and pretended to be knights and wizards by swinging sticks around. It was at the timt the LOTR movies aired so we imagined our sticks to be swords and that we were fighting against orcs and othee monsters. We imagined whole storylines complete with "NPCs", recurring places, quests, rewards etc. and after playtime was over, we met the next day and continued where we left off yesterday. Star Wars, LOTR, Zelda and Secret/Sword of Mana were major inspirations for our "games" and we kinda made a mish mash out of all of these.
I miss having such vivid imagination. In my mind I was really standing there on a battlefield and the stick really was a sword. This friend was also the only one I could do this with because all my other friends lacked interest/imagination so the whole thing will always have a special place in my heart.
Sometimes when we were fed up with one "game" we just started anew, starting as the unlikely heros of a village until fighting our way to be knights with our own keeps and servants.

I guess having such an affinity for play pretend paved the way for my current affiliation with TTRPGs like D&D and stuff.

Licorice. While it's really popular in my country, I just can't get enough of it. I love just about every variety there is.

Now, "allsorts licorice" isn't licorice at all. Salty or 'salmiak' licorice is the real deal. There's also sweet variants, half-winegum-half-licorice stuff and for the real licorice lover? There's laurel licorice that tastes really intense.

If you've never eaten licorice? You totally should. There's a licorice for everyone out there. Try starting with something sweet first. If you're ever in the Netherlands? Try "autodrop" as that's fairly beginner friendly.

ONE OF US

as for the actual question, I like competitive pokemon, though I don’t play much these days because of my pc spoiling me with 144fps (my 3ds looks like a flipbook now) and game freak insisting on hour-long unskippable tutorials with perpetual handholding. I came 5th place at a national championship in 2015, for which I won a mountain of booster packs. Still haven’t opened any of them.

Who's your favorite director and what made you discover them?

He's not very hard to discover, but I think my favorite director currently is David Lynch. I have had a film buff friend for quite a while who has repeatedly told me to watch his works, but they didn't click for me until the latest season of Twin Peaks. There is something really magical in it (especially Dougie Jones' saga), and it made me get into the rest of his catalogue more seriously.

Tortilla Wraps with salad, tomatoes, carrot, chicken strips and burger sauce. Alternatively sushi but that always takes so long. Been way too long since I made some.

Games without balance, somehow in modern gaming the idea of balance is so dominant that we all forgot the joy of being able to realise how to control the mechanics and start winning in majority of case if we are able to.

Example: Heroes of Might and Magic 3

Balance brings mastery to the table. The joy of burning the enemy to the ground while both of you have the same set of tools is much better.
What you are talking about are exploits and bugs.

How is it an exploit if it is part of the design. And lack of balance produces a different balance, the balance of luck and knowledge of unbalanced strategies and attempting to find out which bullshit strategy is better than other bullshit strategy.

That offers much more emotion and passion into gameplay than anything else.

So everyone just sports the most OP stuff and it becomes bland and boring soon since there's only one or few favourable playstyles despite there being theoretically many more that just get outclassed because of bad design.
