Even though I really disliked the flood of le ebig Helix maymays, TPP was pretty cool. I thought it couldn't be done, so color me sursprised,

What useful conclusions can we draw from this social experiment?

Useful? I dunno. But I really like that so many people could do this. I've always been an optimist, but damn does so many people coming together like this make me smile. I've been meaning to look up how many people were playing when they beat it. A girl at my school told me they've already started Crystal!

Not much, honestly, beyond the fact that a good percentage of people are seriously egotistical enough to believe that adding their input to almost a hundred thousand people grappling for the controls could actually help.

I would say something about the helix stuff too, but we already know how memetic stuff like this works. It was neat to see it explode so quickly, but it was pretty much the same ratio of good content to bad you always see with that sort of thing.

It was a lot of fun, seeing so many people come together for something was great. The mythos and religions that spawned was really something.

I think it's just a caricatured illustration of how individual endeavors are better than group efforts.

I'm not sure, but I think something about large scale crowd dynamics could be gleaned from it. Crowd-controlled games have been done before[1], but having it on the internet makes it more interesting. In addition to having many more people, the internet has the problem of trolls.

I'd be really interested in seeing how gameplay would work with different systems of organization. For example, the users could randomly be assigned to a group upon entering the stream, with each group being assigned to control a button. The users of the group could then vote constantly as to whether the button should be pressed or not. That may sound like a silly example, but I'm sure others could come up with more interesting and creative systems.
