Favorite smell?

I am currently riding ab bus over a trainyard and then over a bay. I can see ships in the harbor. You know that smell that comes aorund before rain? It's all around us right now. I love that smell. It occured to me, "Do other people have favorite smells?"

Well, do you?

A few flavors of incense and candles, popcorn, and cinnamin come close, but my favorite of all would be the smell of whole cloves or clove gum.

My favorite smell is morning dew on grass in a forest, free from any man-made taint.

Flowering dogwood. Most people don't like it. It is kind of a sharp smell, but in combination with its afterscent it's nice, I think. Only getting to smell it once a year makes it more worthwhile.

Hotel room. It's a distinct smell, and some light research indicates that it's intentional, too. If I could have it in my home, I don't know if I would. It's special because I rarely visit hotels.

I love the smell of chlorine, it reminds me of pools and summer.

There's this scent I sometimes smell at school around the cafeteria. I don't know how to describe it but it reminds me of elementary school and I love it.

I love the smell of coffee powder, but only the first moment. I can't even describe why.
I also really really like the smell of summer rain!

I *love* the smell of coffee. However I hate coffee itself.

Same here. The smell of sun block gives me the same feeling. When I was a kid, any time someone in the house would put some on to go on a hike or what have you, I assumed we were going swimming.

I didn't used to like it, but now I've gotten used to it. Not so much 'acquired taste' but more like 'gradually acquired tolerance'. I still mainly take caffeine pills when I need my caffeine fix, but when I'm cold, coffee is great.
On my long bike rides it can often get uncomfortably cold but then I just stop in at a gas station somewhere and get a cup of foul-yet-warm liquid and I feel a lot better.
There is something strange about the smell of coffee in the sense that it makes me feel more alert even though there's no way that smelling it would have the same effect as having caffeine. I wonder if there's any actual scientific reason for this or if it's just some sort of Pavlovian or placebo reaction because I'm so used to associating coffee with being awake and aware.

I like the smell of cigarettes, even though I don't smoke.
Freshly roasted coffee smells delicious. It's a smell you never experience if you only buy coffee from markets where it's been on the shelf for a few weeks.

This one girl at the office smells amazing.
I think it's not perfume but her natural smell.

Also, the smell of old books is always nice. I wonder what it is that makes them smell so good.

Did you know that that means you and her have very compatible genes and you and her breeding would produce very strong offspring?

I'm sure that would make for a great pick-up line.

Just one? There's tons of situational smells that I have a strong positive reaction to. Might be because of the season, but right now it's that heavy, floral smell some bushes give off only in the evening. They're mostly from the lilac/syringa family. I'm also partial to petrol and all sorts of musky smells like old leather, books, certain earthy kinds of coffee. I know someone who reacts to shoeshine like cats do to catmint.

The smell of new electronics, laptops, phones, pc parts.

I found an interesting smell today! I have a roll down curtain that I keep up all the time. When I let it down for the first time in a long time, the dust escaped to the air and gave off a strange, metallic scent.

My brother made a home coffee roaster out of an old convection oven.

Dry, hot summer air has a very specific smell to it.

The smell of wood in forestry building at a nearby university. My dad did grad studies there when I was a kid and my mum would sometimes bring me there to visit. The smell is very distict and noticible everytime you enter the building.
Visiting the place again after nearly 20 years, it still smelled the same and it brought back many happy thoughts and feelings.
