I didn't used to like it, but now I've gotten used to it. Not so much 'acquired taste' but more like 'gradually acquired tolerance'. I still mainly take caffeine pills when I need my caffeine fix, but when I'm cold, coffee is great.
On my long bike rides it can often get uncomfortably cold but then I just stop in at a gas station somewhere and get a cup of foul-yet-warm liquid and I feel a lot better.
There is something strange about the smell of coffee in the sense that it makes me feel more alert even though there's no way that smelling it would have the same effect as having caffeine. I wonder if there's any actual scientific reason for this or if it's just some sort of Pavlovian or placebo reaction because I'm so used to associating coffee with being awake and aware.
