what are fireside apples?
the fireside apple was introduced in 1943 during the second world war by the university of minnesota. it gets its name from the fireside chats that the american president franklin roosevelt often held as a result of the 1929 stock market crash and WW2. they are flame red to orange apples with distinctive yellow streaks. when ripe, firesides ripe should be sweet and juicy, with chewy skin. the canadian mcintosh and the russian longfield apples are its parents.
