You know guys, almost everybody here was attracted by sharing the same love for Yokohama Kaidashi Kiko.

First time i read it was 4 years ago from a japanese-portuguese scanlator/translator. From that source i could reach the 8th volume when, all of sudden, the guy who worked on it stopped to work on other mangás not yet translated to any other languague, it drove me up the wall. I mean, that time i hadn't the english's comprehesion i have today. 2 years have passed and i bought a tablet, and using Mangawhat i was able to start all over again until its end. And, you know, it was one of the most beautiful things i have ever read, not only in terms of concept, art and landscape drawings, but also in the way the slice of life and the passing time feelings work together.

I don't use to cry for media related things, even on the Pikachu's Farewell episode, but when it comes to TIME and Nostalgia feelings, i can't help but let the tears out, i don't know why.

The last time i had something similar was with Bicentennial Man's movie, which has a plus or minus similar content.

Time itself has this concept of carring sorrows and longings, and YKK got the sharp idea of being involved not only by Alphas routine and the aging of her friends, but mainly for the twilight age for men, it carries a sad context that make us think of our own lifes and society.

Reminding usual a simple things from childhood, or mistakes and great events that divided our lifes at beggining, middle and and.

Asahino deserves so much more audience for this wonderful work!

>TIME and Nostalgia feelings, i can't help but let the tears out, i don't know why.

I have this problem, numerous chapters that aren't suppose to be sad I find cause me to tear up. The first time she sees the Tapon always gets me and the chapter with Sensei's boat always causes me to tear up.

The one that gets me the worst though is pic related, just that single page puts tears in my eyes. Even now when posting it it puts a lump in my throat.

I sorta try to have each day be like any of the chapters. Everything is pretty interesting. I'm about to go hiking at the moment, with nothing but a cell phone and sword. The snow is melting and the sun is out.
I ended up identifying with a lot of YKK. The people of it get by on very little. Even a short trip has to be a big deal because getting around is pretty difficult. I remember a certain page, I don't remember which one, where Alpha is at home, it's night, she's sitting on the edge of her bed drinking tea while a small space heater is humming away on her floor. That's me all winter. I ended up pretty attached to YKK, and was pretty sad when I realized I was on the second to last chapter.

Just finished reading it for the first time. Enjoyed it. Though found it sad towards the end. Everyone growing up/dying, things becoming overgrown - but the robots just going on like usual.

Perhaps because it reminded me of my own life. Watching everything around me change while not really changing myself. Now that I think about it many aspects parallel.

I asked on the Kodansha tumblr and this is what I got.
>Our schedule is very full of new series from Kodansha. An older manga really needs to be something especially relevant/popular (like Sailor Moon) for us to consider publishing it.

I know it's only an intern that runs it but I can't imagine the response of higher ups being much different.

You've got to put anime's inherit sexiness somewhere. I'm just glad it's just assholes and not a dangling pair of balls too.

Finally got around to finishing Hitose last night, very relaxing to watch before going to sleep. If you haven't picked this up I highly suggest it before the next season airs (hopefully in HD).

Is Iyashikei a recent phenomenon? I know a lot of newer anime like that, but when it comes to older anime, there are very few that come to mind. Most SoL's of that time have some drama/adventures/comedy. I can't think of any healing or atmospheric old anime.

Damn, now that I think about it I can't either.

Kabu no Isaki chapter 15 was translated a few days ago, and I haven't stopped rereading it since then. It was splendid. Simply splendid. I firmly recommend it if you haven't picked up the series yet.

The night time watertower and its daytime counterpart, the flight (as always), and the Mt Fuji, there was really a lot in a single chapter. Not to mention an additional insight into Shirou's personality, since although it may seem like she only gives Isaki the bad jobs, it turns out cut and dried that the pros outweighed the cons by far with this flight.

This site will turn one next month, isn't that wonderful? Gently discussing and calmly enjoying each other's company, I had a great time. I think that for our one-year anniversary we should try to achieve a goal that all of us have been hoping for in passivity for quite some time now.

It's my dream to get Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō published in the west.

YKK has enjoyed more and more popularity in the anime/manga community and I think publishers might be more open to the idea of bringing this excellent piece of art to the west. A western release is now more of a possibility than ever.

What will we do to make this happen? We are to write letters and e-mails to the major publishers with our plea, highlighting all of YKK's great aspects. We are not alone in our wish to bring YKK over and I think that rallying people to aid us in quest would be most successful. Threads can be made, people can be motivated, we might even introduce some new people to the series.

I think we can all give something back the entire Iyashikei community and that we'll have a great time doing so.

Holy shit, I would buy almost all of those. A shame they've already snubbed a lot of the best in previous tweets/other social media.

Seems like they're sticking by things they've said they'll never touch in the past. This would include YKK. Hopes deleted.

Oh well. YKK being shot down was to be expected.
Looking at their Twitter, it looks like LoGH isn't being picked up either. I wonder what they'll end up publishing.

Ah, I'd miss Hidamari threads too.

I stick around only for specific reoccuring topics that I know I'll enjoy discussing, such as Hidamari threads. My front page surfing days are over, mostly. It's much cozier.

I've started the Ichigo Mashimaro anime a few days ago. I'm on episode 5 right now, and I haven't felt this happy watching a slow-paced show since Aria. It captures child-like cuteness and innocence quite nicely, especially looking at how Miu's jealousy was portrayed in episode 5, it really felt genuine. Humor is also pretty good, I guess it's typical manzai but I still find myself chuckling to Miu's antics quite often. Did I mention how much I like Miu by the way, she's just simply adorable.

What does Afternoon Cafe think about it?
>> No. 609
First time I'm hearing of it. I suppose I'll give it a look-see.
