Okay, here's what I''m thinking so far.

- Bottle Mail -
People write messages that become available to read between 1-7 days later. The first person to access the 'beach' will get to read the message and can choose whether to respond to the bottled message or throw it back into the sea. If you choose to respond it will be just like a private conversation with a person, with delayed response time. If you throw the bottle back in the ocean, someone else will get a chance to read it. What's interesting is that you can also throw the bottle back in the ocean after you've had a couple of responses from the other, sharing the conversation with someone else.

I think I could do this with a re-written version of the current BBS script, where the bottled messages work just like threads and responses like posts. There's still the issue of what to do with bottled messages that nobody likes, will they get lost in the ocean after they have been thrown back a couple of beach landings in a row? It shouldn't all be about engaging in a conversation, maybe the original bottle message is great on its own and doesn't warrant a conversation; the recipient just wants to share the message with a lot of people.
