Which language is less difficult?

Russian or German? I have an option to take either class next semester.

For a native English speaker, Russian is more difficult than German. For example, the US military's Defense Language Institute ranks German as a category 2 language, requiring a lower score on their language aptitude test and 35 weeks of training, and Russian a category 3 language, requiring a better score and 48 weeks of training.

But you shouldn't choose based on which is easier but which you think will be more rewarding. That could mean a lot of things, the teacher, who's in the class, whether the language feels right to you, whether you'll have any opportunities to employ it (just a barely remembered semester's worth can cause people to warm up to you if you happen to find them), whether you have any interest in pursuing further studies, whether the culture interests you, etc., etc.
