Videogame music

Lately i've been listening to a few OSTs that really got me hooked. Not exactly in the sense of being awesome, but rather because it still manages to give me the 'feel' of the game even when i'm not playing it. It's like, you listen to the song and it almost makes you feel like you WANT to be in the game. I think this is kinda rare nowadays as most of the soundtracks by games are either sorta generic or they just doesn't exist at all. It is one of the reasons i'm mostly getting into newer games through their soundtrack.

Have you guys ever felt like that with any OSTs? It may sound weird, but i would like to know if i'm the only one who actually gets into it that much. Oh, in case you're wondering i was listening to Digital Devil Saga 1 and 2 OST. God, i love Shoji Meguro.

I really, really like video game music. It has something in it that I can't find anywhere else. It shoots me back in time to experience a piece of days gone, instantly, at the same time inspiring new feelings. It has that type of power. These are some songs I've been into recently.

Ya'll ought to label your links.
Game soundtracks and remixes are pretty much the only music I listen to these days, along with chiptunes.

Super Metroid - Green Brinstar

Chrono Trigger - Zeal

Pokémon RBY - SS Anne

Sonic 2 - Hill Top Zone

Megaman 2 - Quickman [remix]

Starbound surprised me with it's music. Haven't played since launch, but the music was perfect and well put-together.

EarthBound - Kraken
I was pretty intrigued when I first heard that song, it's really interesting.

Here one of the games that is in my opinion still one of the most relaxed ones out there.

Animal Crossing for the Gamecube, the 9am tune.

All the songs are pretty good but I'm not going to post all of them.
For some reason the later games never seemed to have captured the unique feeling of this one.

I'm going to guess that the solitary nature of the game and the self-driven goals and motivations molded peoples' GameCube Animal Crossing experience. It was just one game, not a sequel or part of a series, and that's all you had so you played it all the time and loved it. Each song a visual from the game engrains in your brains.

Later games focused heavily instead on multiplayer aspects instead of the single player, but now we always expect a new one. We remember the old one as a sort of dead relative, even though it never died. The only thing that died was your faith in the original experience, so you sold it and killed it to try to recreate it again in a sequel. Diminishing returns. The first bite of the cake tastes the best. The 20th bite isn't as good.

Whoa, putting it like that makes me feel somewhat dispirited. (´・ω・`)

Y'all ascribing way too much to what boils down to basic nostalgia.

I've put almost equal quantities of time into every AC installment (a LOT of time) with the exception of Wild World, which was kind of half baked and transitional admittedly. They've all done great jobs of delivering their own brand of peaceful charm imo! The multiplayer hasn't really significantly ramped up either, honestly, ACGC was intended to be played with multiple people sharing it, it wasn't simultaneous but it was absolutely intended to be a multiplayer game. The development from that, to limited online, to a slightly more accessible element of sharing with friends never felt like the series took any big leap in that direction to me, especially since it was a big part of the original mission statement, so to speak. I do make a specific point of refusing to be mired down with longing for the past though, I guess. Maybe actively resisting that kind of thinking goes further than I thought.

That being said, as much as I love the NL soundtrack, GC has a really distinct iconic sound that had not been replicated since for sure.

Collection of calm music from video game soundtracks with a nice (optional) rain sound effect. Very fitting for this board, I think.
