Highly efficient, just one character!

the unicode address space is being wasted on modern-day hieroglyphs which encourage illiteracy among an already increasingly anti-intellectual generation 👌😋💯 smh

Mad? 〠 Emoji are cool, especially when they're used sparingly.

Not him but I do agree, it's okay to use one every now and then as long as people don't spam them and fill their posts with them.
But at the same time, they feel so useless, I can make my message perfectly fine without using emojis and that's what makes me kinda dislike the whole emoji business.
There's no real need for it and for the sake of keeping things simple, I like to stick with text only.

But everyone is free to do as they please.

You need to realize that Unicode is not only for messages, but for all kinds of use cases, which include the use of emoticons, bullet points, checkmarks etc.
I'd rather have that stuff standardized than the need for multiple non-standard icon-fonts.

I agree, as the postal mark face doesn't show up on certain devices or with certain fonts.
