Post actually cool content instead of unabashedly self-promoting your site that lists your genders on the first click.
Take it as a challenge: your site's link will be here for posterity, so do your best right now to make it entertaining. Swap the ME ME ME with substance and you'll get the praise you want in the future (or dismiss all criticism and always be ultra lame compared to Windows 93...)
You can do it, I believe in you!

Not that anon, but I just checked and Desuarchive seems to be the only definitive /a/ archive left. It goes back to around February of 2008. Fireden deleted their /a/, /v/, and /vg/ archives sometime in 2019. Archived.Moe still archives /a/, but it's pointless as there's no search function.

I remember long ago the owner of this site was spamming on all the other alternative chans/textboards. My memory of the board is very vague, but from the looks of it now, seems its just another anime imageboard with thirty regular users, like a lot of the "comfy" chans. Apparently only sol anime made in the last five years and a few popular shows from the mid 90s can be comfy, because that's all I ever see comfychan people post
554 Name: Anonymous : 2020-04-30 04:50
>>553
It doesn't even seem to be a very good-quality "anime" imageboard, in that it feels more like yet another /jp/ spinoff with "random" posts rather than any substantive discussion.
555 Name: Paperplane : 2020-04-30 06:07
>>553
>>554
I checked it out and I have to agree. It looks like a board without identity. A board just for the sake of being yet another board. Nothing wrong with thar, I'm not hating but I wonder why they just don't band together. Many use "comfy" as a euphemism for dead and think that every slight increase in posts per day would suddenly turn a board into the next 4chan. I personally think that most alt-chans could use some more traffic and they're a long way from ever becoming too fast and lose their comfiness. Something like the post office AIMS to be slow and it's part of this place's whole schtick but I don't think that's what each of those places is going for.
556 Name: Anonymous : 2020-04-30 20:43
>>555
Part of the issue is that it's a lot easier to make low-effort posts (and attract those kinds of posters) than to cultivate good discussion. You need to provide a seed of topics to discuss which will set the ambiance. Lainchan for instance, focuses on cyberpunk/technology and its discussion is mostly centered around that – even on the "random" board where discussion tends towards academic or anarchist-type topics. I don't think just banding together a bunch of disparate aimless alt-chans would remedy this much.

I've visited there before and I'm not sure what you mean by LARPing. It doesn't really seem any different from other liveboards like Meguca. It's almost inevitable then when you have a small group and live-posting, it gets treated more like IRC or a chatroom than an imageboard. So you'll usually end up with people posting using identifiable names, and clique-ish behavior.

I want to talk about fantasy stuff, world-building and writing, comics etc. The best place I've found is 4's /tg/ but it's a dumpster fire of fetishism and shitposting.
I just want a community of dorks that like talking about fantasy freely and letting their imagination run wild while keeping the porn addicts and creeps out. Textboard, imageboard, subreddit, IRC channel, I don't care if I have to solve an internet riddle to get in. Just tell me it exists and there's somebody in it.

/tg/ once made a spinoff chan but it wasn't exactly populated, just had dedicated users. While I do enjoy some of the fetish stuff on /tg/ I can see how people would want to talk about something, say goblins or amazons, dragons etc without opening that can of worms. I could try and think of some places to look at and return to see if they were successful. I'd suggest looking through subreddits first because they have largely replaced forums.

Well, it received like 5-6 postcards over a course of two years, so it definitely wasn't very "profitable" (even given the low hosting price of today), especially considering the .garden TLD.
I wish they left a parting note instead of disappearing without a word, though. Some closure, if you may.

Scream was great.
The best part about it was its authenticity.

Hosting costs at least some money and comfy isn't a currency.
This. The .garden TLD was also a huge mistake as >>586 pointed out - Those domains cost around $30 a year which is ridiculous.

I've owned sites in the past that have been fun and comfy in theory, but when they get 1 - 2 users once in a blue moon it just isn't worth the cost of keeping them around a lot of the time. I actually wrote a news post about this on Peelopaalu when Postbox Garden first went down. It's kind of funny that the only site I've ever made that a couple of people have wanted to donate a couple of dollars to me for is Peelopaalu, which costs me nothing but time to run.
588 Name: Anonymous : 2020-06-03 21:47
>>587
Well, we have their address. Then again, it was... Cambridge Garnening Club, or something like that. It could theoretically be possible... to send them a postcard.
I suppose it won't do if it was a club connected to some university, though. Might be that someone who's ran this project just graduated. That's just me assuming things based on "Cambridge", though.

In any case, it's ridiculously easy to host things on the Internet nowadays for next to no money. There's Neocities, GitHub Pages, free hosting, even EC2 will let you do that for cheap. I've came across several mostly dead IBs recently that were hosted on free services. Postbox Garden could have kept operating (save for the expensive TLD they'd have to change to something cheaper), but maybe the person running it decided to pull the plug regardless. I can kind of guess how it must have felt like to have to look at it occasionally while having nothing to upload.

Ironically, even though it's never been easier and cheaper to run things, not many people do that. I'm partially guilty to that as well, though, but I'll try to change that one thing someday.

Newest entry on the directory is "The History of the Web", which is the 561st link on the directory, you can CTRL+F to find it. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I've considered adding a numbering system to the site so people can CTRL+F to find the latest entries, but I don't want to give the impression that there's some sort of ranking system in place. Any suggestions on how I can go about this? Maybe add a "(NEW!)" tag to the latest entries or something and then remove the tag after a week or something? Lemme know if you guys have any ideas.
