Tell me about the Archiveocalypse.

I for one am happy that the archives are going down. I think the attitude toward an anonymous website changes when you know that everything is getting archived on a bunch of archives you don't know of.

Are there really no communities outside of Reddit etc. that are not strictly about programming, anime, or both? I must be looking in the wrong places because I can't believe that literally everywhere outside of mainstream sites there's nothing but that. I've been looking around quite a lot and I always see nothing but programming and/or anime every single time. Is this a young people thing?
Sorry if this sounds rant-y, I don't have anything against that intrinsically.

There used to be more traffic but you still get a post now and then. Conversations don't really happen though, which is kinda sad because the environment here is fairly unique for that. You see a blog(ish) post now and then and maybe a reply to that and that's usually it. I still check by a lot but I feel like this place already exhausted itself for me, especially since I read through many of the old threads already so there's barely anything new to discover and the community is almost nonexistent at the moment.

This is why I try to check in only every week or so, so there's a bit to actually catch up on. If only I could keep to that kind of schedule with other websites.. Honestly I think I'd prefer to only come here as long as I could rely on some new stuff to check out every week. So much of the internet feels like just burning time away.
823 Name: Anonymous : 2021-06-24 23:33
This is actually the second period of quiescence I've seen here. Quite a few years ago it was very lively, and there were charming things like the paper and the wiki thing that was like a small collaboratively written adventure game. That lasted for a while before dying down. The past couple years were a second bloom after that. So I at least am going to be hopeful that this thing isn't over but just following its own cycle.

SO many people have told me to play Dark Souls but it seems like a game that may be too hard for me.
:(

>>838
Why do you think that?
It's hard for me to imagine your situation since I already sunk around 2k hours into the series and my first steps with it back in 2012/13 are fuzzy in my memory but I'll do my best:

1. You can brute force basically everything. "Gittung gud"- as the meme goes - sure helps but since it's still an RPG you can always just grind XP and upgrade your gear to make things easier.
2. Your first blind playthrough will probably be crushing since KNOWLEDGE is a huge factor. Knowing enemy patterns, traps and even just routes throughout the world makes the biggest difference imo. My first playthrough, blind, took me about 70 hours (still have that char save on my ps3) and my second already reached the final boss in 20.
4. Looking up a guide about character building is no shame. The game has some worthless stats that you can invest XP in and some weapons are just plain bad and have objectively better variants which is impossible to know as a noob.
5. Loadout matters a lot. Going sword and shield and blocking most attacks is way easier than solely relying on your dodge. The latter is more fun and you won't need a shield down the line but I consider shields to be the training wheels of the series, because you can observe new encounters in relative safety with your shield up.
Any kind of spell, be it pyromancy or classic sorcery trivialises a lot of the enemies, since it's kinda balanced around melee and just hanging back and spamming spell projectiles is easy to do.
So it basically ties the difficulty to the loadout you're choosing which can suck for a new player if he unknowlingly picks a hard loadout but imo gives the game a lot of replayability since different builds play differntly ofc.

If you have regular hand eye coordination, aren't afraid to spend a few minutes learning about how to build your character and have a high tolerance for frustration it is defenitely beatably by everyone.
But you have to judge if you would even enjoy that.

Good suggestion! I have actually been running a test on another textboard where I have made the deletion password public and just allow the community to delete stuff that doesn't fit the vibe. So far it has actually gone really well, with no incidents of mass deletion or upload wars. I guess it helps that it's really only spam that needs to be removed. So I'll be giving you guys the deletion password for the imageboard here as well!

Use the password takeiteasy to delete spam/advertisements and things that are just generally unfit for having on the site.

If you want to report stuff on the textboard, you can drop me an email at saovq@gmail.com and I'll have a look. I hope this helps!

If you have old youtube playlists, you might find some of the videos there to be deleted or listed as private. Unfortunately, it isn't exactly obvious through normal means to see what the missing videos' titles were to begin with, so especially in old or long playlists it's hard to realise what went missing.
This site might help you find what was lost.

It's a very surreal community. There are a few gems (old-school LPs, retro tech, actual vaporwave), but most of it's lost to waves of new users joining and old users leaving. There's no cohesive theme or structure, and that means the community you liked one week will morph into something different come the next one.

Ah, seems like the main board is down, here's the link to the software itself though. https://github.com/FChannel0

This is in relation to Fchan. To answer your question (to >>916) it's a way to have intercommunication between separate or otherwise isolated websites or services. People have made youtube and instagram and twitter clones with federation in mind and now some bros just made an imageboard that does the same.

I found this while searching wiby.me : http://www.softpaw.org/ .
THIS is the sort of high-quality fandom site that I feel like a lot of Neocities/Geocities-remakes fail to emulate. In my opinion, rather than trying to make something beautiful within limitations and constraints, most nostalgia chasers just copy the lowest common denominators of the past. In many ways, the contemporary internet is so, so much better than the internet of my youth; yet, at the same time, that potential is being squandered or has to be painstakingly discovered.

What do the up and down arrows do?
Can I bump something? Who took these photos?
Why is the icon to go fullscreen a +?

I have many questions.
963 Name: Anonymous : 2023-06-01 15:15
What do the up and down arrows do?
Increase and decrease volume. I could probably change that though.
Can I bump something?
Depends on if you want to, the term here is in reference to adult swim intertitle type things. I wanted something to relax to without the interruptions you'd get from advertising or even just searching for a new playlist or video.
Who took these photos?
Mostly me, but I also mixed in a few given to me by friends and a few others I just liked.
Why is the icon to go fullscreen a +?
That, I dunno, just picked the first single character thing that came to mind.

Fair critiques though, I'll think on some of that to make the ux more obvious.

Here's a small recently founded site. Owner is aiming for comfort and easy-going discussion.

https://hikari3.ch/

I think small, new sites hold a particularly enticing sort of potential, since they're in the phase where just a handful of people can establish the 'culture'. I always try to post something interesting or funny.
969 Name: Paperplane : 2023-06-13 08:10
>>968
If it wasn't for post office's admin deleting blatant advertising ITT and on the board in general this is probably the 20th or so "small, recently founded site aimed at comfort and easy-going discussion" posted here. Just look at the list of IBs here >>949 and see for yourself, it's more or less all the same slosh.
Sorry to sound so negative but these places usually go nowhere and even if they do, they're virtually indistinguishable from one another and I wouldn't be surprised if they also share a very similar, tiny userbase that valiantly tries to uphold traffic (to their credit!).

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with these boards existing and people using them but is another drop in the ocean really a cool/interesting entry for this thread? I don't think so. I get that you probably want publcitiy/more users for it but "small imageboard with anime images posted on it" really pales in comparison to many other cool entries ITT. Maybe I'm too strict on what counts as "cool" but I usually expect a novel concept, a surprise or something very old. Anything that makes the site stand out, really.

Just my 2 pennies.

Actually I believe the creator of this site said he wanted the site to build up and have various 'user-created' boards, similar to https://iro2.net/ which started with an 'entryway' board before spiralling out into a network of boards, which sometimes overlapped when users 'cross-posted' threads, like seen here:

Hi all,
Just found out about this board, very nice and unique styling. Someone else posted this before, but I've been running the retro focused board https://wapchan.org for the past year and a half, and recently did a UI overhaul giving each of boards unique styling to give the site a more distinct feel, as well as adding a doodle section. I hope you all come and visit sometime.

You are literally so misinformed it's hilarious. The aeromatic reiko harem shit was a phase he had for a few months when he was being manipulated into taking hrt by basically every queermo menhera faggot on /r9k/. As for the stereotype of every retrofag being a tranny/autist, he basically invented that retro computing/anime/internet renaissance style, and the menhera glittercore cunts leeched onto it around 2018/19 when he trooned out, because his art got popular around the same time he started associating with those groups. He highly regrets it now, and siavows all of that shit. He wants to go back to making funny videos and music
