The web filter at my workpace allows Wikipedia, but blocks Wikimedia Commons (commons.wikimedia.org) under the categories Reference, and Mixed Content/Potentially Adult.

It allows MusicBrainz, AcousticBrainz, and ListenBrainz, but not BookBrainz, CritiqueBrainz, and MessyBrainz (all of these projects are run by the MetaBrainz foundation.

There are sites where the webpages themselves make it through the filter, but all of the assets of the same origin do not.

There are webpages that make it through the filter, but the homepage of the site does not.

There are homepages that make it through the filter, but every other page does not.

It is inconsistent. For example, plus.google.com is allowed or not allowed depending on the time of day.

Some sites, instead of being filtered, just time out for some reason, probably due to poor proxy configuration or something.

Do I have the most stupid web filter at work, or does it get worse?

I'll never understand the point of webfilters.

We're just trying to make technological solutions to social problems, in order to keep our employees productive! It's not like they'd find other ways to distract themselves (by reading a book, or just talking), or that they'd spend the time they used to spend on the internet finding sites that get through the web filter, b-baka!
