I'll be graduating in the next year or so and decided to try visiting my university's career fair today. It felt extremely dehumanizing and pointless. Why do people attend these things if companies aren't even going to glance at your resume and then tell you to apply online? They feel like cultural relics considering most of the information you're expected to solicit from the company representatives can be found nowadays on Glassdoor, or generally by googling some. Does anyone have a perspective on this that explains why it might be worth it to attend? It seems like it might be easier to sit at home filling out online applications and sending resumes.
