But isn't religion more than just explaining the how and why we are here? I'm not religious or anything but I always thought many of the more "magic" stories were to be taken metaphorically.

Anyway, for many people religion and the holy book of their choice is a way to cope with hardships, a way to deal with problems and a offers worldview that gives peace of mind. Instructions that help you deal with life and in that sense I doubt it'll go away especially when everything in this world is constantly changing and constantly posing new challenges. But on the other hand, many functions of the church have been taken over by the government so a traditional role of the church is pretty much gone. Science can explain our world but I don't think you should simplify religion merely to a book with alternative facts.

That's just my opinion.
