A Western release for Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō

About YKK
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō is a wonderful manga that sadly was never released outside of Japan. But through the effort of dedicated translation teams the manga has reached a western audience and enjoyed a radiant response. Now, six years after the release of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō's final volume, the series has won the affection of many readers and is often cited as a must-read.

Sharing the love
I'm a big fan of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō and I think it would be great if more people were to be able to enjoy it with me. The series definitely deserves an English release and this would give many others the opportunity to discover a great manga. I want to make this happen by contacting numerous publishers with the suggestion to publish YKK in the west and this page encourages others to do the same. If many people mail them with the same request our wish is more likely to be heard.

Below I have listed a couple of publishers who might be interested in publishing a manga with artistic merit:

And here's an example of a mail that could be sent. Feel free to use this as a template for your own.
Just make sure that your mail is appropriately personalized, so that they won't recieve 100 copies of the same mail.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I would like to see the manga Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou published in English. That's why I am sending this email to express my interest if you were to acquire its license.

Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou is a manga with a rapidly growing popularity. Praised for its beautiful art and gentle story-telling many found it to be one of the greatest manga of all time. However, there have been little efforts to bring this manga out of Japan. I think it would do very well in the west, because the relaxing pace and cute humor has already proven succesful with titles like Yotsuba&! and Chi's Sweet Home. The girls are also very cute and the art makes for some very compelling scenes. These weren't the things that made me fall in love with Yokohama Kaidashi Kikō, though.

Reading Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou for the first time was a dreamlike experience for me; I was instantly sucked into this new world with characters that were engaging and realistic. What made this so remarkable, though, was that this happened without the use of an exciting story. It was the soothing atmosphere that got me to ride the flow of the happenings. It's a sensation that is very rare in manga or other types of media and every chapter left me with a warm glow inside of my body.

I'm a big fan of Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou and I share this passion with a large amount of people online, which almost all would like to see a magnificent piece of art like this published in the west. Devoted as they are, they would all buy an English release.

Best regards,
